TEPIA International Symposium on Intellectual Property
-Role of Japan for Asian Partners-

1. Purpose:
Even in the midst of the financial crisis, which is now the main concern of the international community, intellectual property-based innovation is becoming more and more important.  Among others, Asian countries have steadily broadened their interest to build a framework for industrial innovation and participate in the creation of a network of never-ending expansion and development based on their own intellectual property strategies.

To help them foster such network, The Machine Industry Memorial Foundation (TEPIA) and The Intellectual Property Association of Japan (IPAJ) have decided to organize a first international conference on Asian academic and industry cooperation and networking in intellectual property management. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum to exchange views and ideas, and discuss experiences and best practices of intellectual property management in Asian region, thereby to synthesize a proposal to the government, industry and academia in Asian countries to promote the networking and to establish fundamental structure for robust innovation system.

The conference will include keynote speeches and a series of workshops focusing on appliance and collaboration between Japan and Asian academia (China, Korea, Vietnam and Indonesia).  Finally the conclusion and recommendation will be proposed in the form of a declaration based on the discussion of workshops. We believe that this conference will contribute to create steady and strong network of Asian Academic and Industry Cooperation in Intellectual Property Management and will lead long term contribution for economy in this area.
